Hi! Nice to meet you..

Free Range Artists is a small, independent business based out of a garden workshop in a town in Oxfordshire. We create unique products inspired by our travels, home comforts and nature, using the most sustainable materials we can find and preserving nature and history in each piece.

The business was born out of a shared vision between me (Dee) and my mum, Sarah. We’re an artistic family and had talked about the concept for years, with mum’s background in textiles and teaching art, and mine in 3D design and sculpture. We wanted to create handmade, unique products to contrast the mass produced, faux and plastic items we so regularly see, and we wanted to bring together creative people that could inspire and support each other.

Regular visits to local social enterprise Oxford Wood Recycling introduced me to odd and old bits of wood that I knew could be turned into something beautiful, and further piqued my interest in woodworking. In 2023 I decided to dive headfirst into the craft – leaving my job in composites at Williams F1 to pursue Free Range Artists full time. I introduced my new world to my partner Ryan, a composite engineer also in F1 and we started envisioning a whole new realm of possibilities in woodworking, playing around with colour, shape, and the use of resin.

When my grandparents passed away later that year, we inherited a house full of charming but outdated furniture. I got to work restoring and updating each piece, and soon realised that many other people have similar items that they’d like to give new life to. I started looking for more ways to repurpose abandoned and neglected furniture, discovering just how beautiful pieces could become when given a little love.

I’ve always been passionate about sculpting and moulding, having studied and worked in the field for many years.  I’ve found a new way to use these skills while letting my imagination run wild through candle making - blending wax, fragrances, and colours, and hand pouring candles into the moulds I’ve made. My candles are testament to my love for home comforts, filling a living space with serenity and beauty.

I now create fulltime, conscience of the path of restore, redesign, and reuse, and preserving nature. I continue to be inspired by my family and our love of the great outdoors.
